Assistance with Medicare – HICAP
The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides counseling and advocacy services to Medicare beneficiaries. Assistance with Medicare and health insurance issues is free and includes individual counseling and community education services.
Who does HICAP serve?
- Current Medicare beneficiaries
- Persons about to receive Medicare benefits
- Adult children or other representatives of Medicare beneficiaries
- Persons planning for retirement
- Older persons contemplating the purchase of health insurance
- Persons interested in coverage for future health related costs
How can HICAP help you?
HICAP is available every county in California and can help you with information and counseling on:
- Understanding your rights as a health care consumer
- Medicare benefits and rights, including how to appeal denials of coverage
- Legal help and representation at Medicare appeals and administrative hearings
- Private Medicare supplemental insurance (MediGap) coverage
- Medicare Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) or Medicare+Choice Plans
- Long Term Care Insurance
